Vitriol Tenebrae is a main character of the webcomic Pantagrame Quest. This tormented teenager is convinced life is worthless and full of pain. Extremely vulgar and violent, he claims to be the "hellish emissary", to be all-powerful. His unholy mission: to bring the world to an end. To fulfill this goal, he is searching for the Pantagrame.
Vitriol lacks talent in all requited areas (and even a few more!): he is clumsy, easily embarrassed or frightened, unable to write or to speak without spelling mistakes, and generally displays stunning inefficiency.
However, as a corallian herald, Vitriol possesses a dangerous corallian power: to animate lifeless matter. He can create Familiars out of any inanimate object.
Trivia[]
- In chemistry, vitriol is an archaic name for a sulfate.
- The name comes from the Latin word "vitreolum" for glassy, as crystals of several metallic sulfates resemble pieces of colored glass. The etymological reference could be deliberate, for Vitriol's Familiars display stained glass shards.
- The acronym V.I.T.R.I.O.L.U.M., used in alchemical literature, is formed by the Latin expression "Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem Veram Medicinam", what means "Visit the interior of the earth, and by rectifying you will find the hidden stone which is the true medicine".
